BART and Caltrans to Close Southbound Interstate 880 at Hegenberger Road (4/12/13)

BART and Caltrans will close all lanes of southbound Interstate 880 (I-880) at Hegenberger Road on Sunday, April 21 between the hours of 1:30 am and 5:30 am. This early morning closure is necessary to allow crews to construct the Oakland Airport Connector system’s guideway above I-880.  Drivers who must pass through that area will need to follow the detour signs, requiring vehicles to exit at Hegenberger, then detour via Airport Access Road and 98th Avenue in Oakland.


BART Awards Grant for Local Apprentice Program (2/26/13)

Local workers make up the bulk of employees building BART’s Oakland Airport Connector (OAC), and thanks to a newly awarded grant, some of those workers will come from an apprentice program aimed at training young Oakland men and women looking to learn a trade. BART officials today announced the decision to award a grant of nearly $34,000 to the Oakland based Cypress Mandela Training Center to employ a young and diverse workforce made up of Oakland residents.
