Project Sponsored Community Engagement Programs

Our commitment to civic responsibility is about more than good business sense or compliance with government regulations; it is about building strong communities. We actively seek to be a good neighbor in the community, from ground breaking to grand opening to the 20 year anniversary.

Community Youth Benefits Program

Given the crucial impact this project will have on the community and the rich educational opportunities it can provide, our team's goal is to engage youth from the surrounding community at multiple levels. We will increase their understanding of the benefits the project brings to their neighborhood, increase their awareness of and interests in careers in engineering and construction, and provide needed pre-professional work experience.

ACE Mentorship Program (ACE)

ACE is the construction industry's fastest growing high school mentoring program in the United States. The San Francisco/Bay Area chapter of ACE has a well-established relationship with the Oakland Unified School District. In collaboration with programs such as the East Oakland Youth Development Center, Mayors Summer Jobs Program, ACE, and other local mentorship programs, our goal is to make an impact on the lives of youth in the project area. Scholarships will be awarded to selected high school seniors as they prepare to transition to apprenticeship programs, community colleges, or accredited universities.

Build-A-Bridge

Each year Flatiron sponsors a program for high school seniors interested in the engineering and construction industry. In the Spring of 2011, students at Lionel Wilson College Preparatory Academy in Oakland will attend weekly seminars presented by Flatiron and learn aspects of the industry, including estimating, drafting, and plan reading. Culminating in a final project, a scholarship and internship is also awarded through this program.
